We just couldn’t get enough of this past weekend and extended it on to a Sunday day-time party. It was a relaxed evening for us in an open air space, as we checked out a traditional, end of the month Half Baked session on the 22nd of September in East London.
Since the launch of Half Baked in 2009, founders Remi Landaz and Bruno Ciaramicoli have created a brilliant vibe for their parties, filling up unique venues with their long-established fan base. Showcasing all around the world, in Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, Ibiza, New York and countless more cities, they have gained a phenomenal reputation. Having vowed to releasing their records on vinyl only, Half Baked have shown their devotion for this tradition.
This past Sunday the prominent residents Seuil and Robin Ordell were joined by the Japanese Fumiya Tanaka, each with a 3 hour long performance. For those who wanted to keep on going there was an after-party in Kingsland Road too. Hosted at iCAN Studios in Hackney Wick—we saw the signature Half Baked sign, covered with ivy and flowers hanging on the wall, transforming the intimate venue into a familiar Half Baked party.
Half Baked have been bringing the best names from Japan to London for a while now; and this time we got an original Japanese makeover from the divine Fumiya Tanaka. There is nothing monochrome about this guy; he blends in funky grooves with house and minimal vibes, creating the perfect balance between soulful music with the more generic, heavier beats. Fumiya Tanaka, is among the rising Japanese artists in the scene alongside Satoshi Tomiie and RADIQ. After our Fumiya Tanaka experience, we’re thinking the upsurge of electronic music from Japan might just be the new unspoiled territory to explore!
Robin Ordell’s performance lived up to the expectations of his latest release on HB Records. We suggest you check out his preview on SoundCloud to get a feeling of Robin Ordell’s grasping beats and samples but also of the long-established sound of Half Baked.
Half Baked have announced incredible parties for the following months—29th of November should be very special as it is Half Baked’s 5th Year Anniversary. We’ll keep going for 18 hours, listening to residents Greg Brockman, Robin Ordell, VERA as well as Sammy Dee, Hold Youth and ZIP. On the 26th of October we’ll be extending our weekend once again for Valentino Kanzyani and Lorenzo Chiabotti.
