Top 5 New Years Day Gigs in London

December 24, 2014

We recently shared our picks for NYE parties in London with you. This week we say forget about them. Why not stay in on the 31st to save your energy for NYD. Or use up all your energy and go to both. Either way, you’ll agree once you see these…

1. The Hydra @Studio Spaces with Dixon, John Talabot, Levon Vincent & Move D

This is the s**t. Before they start in the evening, Four Tet plays B2B with Daphni from 6am till 2pm. Quite simply, we really do recommend spending the first 48 hours of 2015 at Studio Spaces.

2. LWE NYD @Tobacco Dock

LWE don’t do things by halves, and have put together another huge line up for NYD. Featuring the likes of Maya Jane Coles, the Martinez Brothers, Art Department, Subb-an, Visionquest, Guti & more, the after party looks just as interesting.

3. We Concur NYD @Oval Space with Nina Kraviz, Alan Fitzpatrick & Recondite

For anyone looking for an all techno NYD… Nina Kraviz killed it NYD 2014 in Amsterdam, she’s preferring to take on London in 2015.

4. NYD @XOYO with Âme & Marcus Wogull

The German duo Âme, joined by Innversion’s label mate Marcus Wogull will kick things off for XOYO this year. Below is Huxley at last year’s NYD at XOYO. If last year is anything to go by, this should be a great party.

5. Magna Carta NYD @Fire & Lightbox with Huxley, East End Dubs & Many more

See above video… ‘Nuff said.

Tiny Tech Tips: Why You Need Earplugs At Concerts

March 12, 2019

One of Bob Boilen's requests at the Tiny Desk is that no musician play louder than the singers can project without amplification, which has the effect of equalizing audience and performers, creating an intimate and balanced sound that's never too loud in the room. But when sound engineers need to reinforce venues bigger than an office, it's impossible to balance the sound in every area of the room. If you prefer to be close to the stage, you'll inevitably be a lot closer to the loudspeakers, where volume levels can become uncomfortably loud.
